Getting more girls and women on bikes

"She who succeeds in gaining the mastery of the bicycle will gain the mastery of life" - Frances E. Willard

It was true when it was written back in 1895, and it's true today. We at Bike Like a Girl have experienced it firsthand, and we have made it our mission to share the wealth of benefits that cycling confers to girls and women everywhere.

The brainchild of the Race Across America team that broke the women's record in 2015, Bike Like a Girl is about empowerment and inclusion. It is based on the belief that everyone should get the opportunity to discover what can be learned from the simple act of riding a bike.

A 501(c)(3) non-profit, Bike Like a girl achieves its aims through bike camps, clinics, rides, races, events, and more to:

  • teach the nuts and bolts of bikes,
  • provide equipment to those in need, and
  • spread the joy and lifelong benefits of cycling.

Bike Like a Girl is based in the Reno-Tahoe region of NV/CA and Sacramento/Roseville, CA and plans to expand their reach in the future!

We are able to pursue our mission thanks to the generous help of the many supporters who share our vision. They are individuals volunteering their time; partners providing bikes, accessories, and more; organizations large and small offering financial support. We invite you to come along for the ride! Here's how you can get involved.

“Let me tell you what I think of bicycling. I think it has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. It gives women a feeling of freedom and self-reliance. I stand and rejoice every time I see a woman ride by on a wheel…the picture of free, untrammeled womanhood.”  Susan B. Anthony 1896
